Wajipha Chongwe is a multidisciplinary artist inspired by her culture, surroundings, and personal experiences.
As a biracial woman and mother, she continually redefines the labels imposed by society. Her work, often featuring spirals and dots, symbolizes the interconnectedness of time and the motion of existence. She draws inspiration from the energy of dance, the vibration of sound, and the simplicity and complexity of life’s flow. Art has always been her language, a means of expressing her perception of reality, spirituality, and duality. Self-taught and self-motivated, her work evolves as she does, moving from pastels to ink and paints.
Spirituality, freedom from conventional religious definitions, and the representation of brown people, especially as spiritual figures, are central themes in her art.
Her creations explore concepts of connection especially familial bonds and self-empowerment. She imagines souls as flowers, with seeds linking to families, both born and made. Movement, whether in space, time, or life, is integral to her practice. Through spirals and dynamic forms, she aims to capture the unseen connections that vibrate between us all.

Originally from Zambia and Australia, Wajipha now resides in Amsterdam,embracing her identity as an international citizen.
