In Pursuit of Joy - “Every Which Way”
Victor Makashi & Patrick Mumba

The pursuit to find joy, peace and happiness is an unending one. People’s comfort zones are sometimes so abruptly disrupted that in the blink of an eye one may find oneself homeless and heading into an unknown destination. Those who are lucky may find themselves in a refugee camp many miles away from home. Others may lose their lives in the process.

The causes of such interruptions are sometimes natural, such as floods, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. There are also man-made situations such as wars, or people illegally crossing into other countries in search of a better life.

The pursuit for joy and better living conditions is not limited to victims of natural and man-made calamities alone, but cuts across every human community. Every single day people engage themselves in activities that they feel will make them happy at the end of the day. And it does not matter whether it’s only for a short time, or it will be for a longer period. Some even reminisce about the "good old days” as long as it brings a smile on their faces.

There are those who search for their satisfaction on the road, in the market, in marriages or in their culture and traditions. Others indulge in unpleasant activities such as drug abuse, prostitution and excessive alcohol consumption all in the name of looking for joy and happiness.

In Pursuit of Joy - "Every Which Way" is an exploration of activities that people engage in to find lasting peace, shelter and a better life, this search at times, may last an entire lifetime.
